Frustrated because your girl won’t join in the fishing fun?

As a sundress-loving princess that doesn’t mind spending her weekends dating Mr Chao (Phraya), here are some tips to help you guys introduce the sport to your other halves.

After this, hopefully you’ll never have to lament: “Sian. She caught me at the jetty when I was supposed to be at a ‘meeting.’”

1. Start small

When you prepare equipment for her first cast, always set it up to catch fish she can handle. I’m sure she’d rather land a baby catfish than lose a giant arapaima! Failing sucks and it probably means there won’t be a second time.

2. Do the preparation work

Even if it’s not the first time anymore, tie her rigs and hook the bait on for your girl. I don’t faint at the sight of raw prawn bait, but I prefer if I didn’t have to touch that slimy thing. I know some of us put snail cream on our faces, but it’s not the same thing.

3. Bring her shopping

The best part of fishing is dressing up. She wants to look cute and comfortable at the same time! Suggest fishing-friendly outfit choices like cotton tees, shorts, sunglasses and a sunhat. It builds up the anticipation for fishing trip, so she’ll actually look forward to it.

4. Celebrate her catch

Encourage her when she catches her first fish! So what if it’s puny and lame? She probably doesn’t think so.

5. Take Insta-worthy photos

This is the most important tip! Take photos of her outfit-of-the-day, when she’s casting or while she’s holding her catch. Take a lot of photos for her to post online! After all, you’re only as cool as the number of likes you get on Instagram, right?

OKAY, the last point was a joke. (Was it?)
