Two Singaporean kayak fishing professionals will be representing the country in this year’s Hobie Fishing Worlds Championship (HFWC).
Johnson Lee (pictured left) and Mervin Low (pictured right) were initially part of a three-man team participating in the fourth instalment of the competition, but Abdul Hakim had to pull out due to personal commitments.
All three anglers are experts in the field of luring and have had heaps of experience in fishing competitions involving a kayak.
The HFWC will be held in Vinkeveen Plassen, Amsterdam from 5-12 October 2014 and it will involve participants from USA, Canada and Europe.
It will prove to be a challenge for the Singaporean duo as they will have to target fish that they have never caught before—pike, perch and zander—using lures.
On top of that, unlike previous years, competition officials will pick a winner based on the length of the fish—the values of each catch are added to reach an “Aggregate” score and individual fish are also recorded for big fish categories.
Temperature is expected to range from 10 to 20°C and Johnson and Mervin are hoping for warmer weather during the tournament.
The duo is already preparing for the HFWC, but is looking for any advice to do well.
