The Warren Golf Course and Country Club opened one of its ponds for its annual fishing competition yesterday and an 8-kg catch* took the first prize in what was a tough afternoon by the water.
Jarrett Goh caught the heaviest fish, which was his first-ever snakehead, about an hour after the organisers flagged off the contest.
Braving through rain and humidity, anglers of various age groups used bait and lures to tempt the pond’s biggest fishes to get hooked.
Species landed at the competition include peacock basses, tilapias and the aggressive snakehead.
Lim Cun Xian and William Tang came in second and third respectively with their snakeheads which weighed in at four and 3.9kg.
There were two winners in the family category which were selected based on the total weight of fishes landed.
The winning family consisting of Lim Han Chong and Lim Wei Xuan caught three fishes which weighed in at 4.3kg.
After six hours of non-stop fishing, the event culminated with a prize-giving ceremony where winners received SureCatch fishing gear and Warren Golf Course and Country Club dining vouchers.
*All fishes were caught and released.
