THE BIENNIAL FAMILY Fishing Competition organized by the committee members of Alkaff Upper Serangoon Mosque has proven to be a success once again. The chairman of the mosque, Hj Abu Bakar Hj Jaafar, 59, tells us that the goal of the event was not only to raise funds for the upgrading of the mosque, but to also promote fishing as a hobby and to strengthen ties between family and friends. To promote interracial harmony and bonding, a special prize was also given out if you brought along a friend of a different race.

Though the weather was gloomy, the anglers faces were filled with hope and excitement. A variety of fishes such as the fingermark snapper, tilapia and red snapper were landed throughout the day. The biggest catch which bagged the first prize of five hundred dollars was a barramundi that weighed a whopping 4.43kg.

Despite having to brave the unlucky cold and torrential weather, almost everyone won a prize at the lucky draw. Prizes included rods, reels, hooks and many more, all generously sponsored by Siow Chiang and Fishing Buddy.
